Ranger Delivers Valuable Insights for Architecture, Engineering and Construction Use

In AEC, site suitability and environmental change can dramatically impact development. With innovative technology from Skytec, construction and engineering firms can gain macro- and micro-level analysis through geospatial data capture to support key business decisions.

Skytec’s Ranger platform provides a level of data analysis and change detection that delivers vital insights to project and site managers. Ranger monitors both the built environment and the natural environment and how they change and evolve through the construction process.

“Clients in the construction and engineering industries can monitor sites and have details at their fingertips using Skytec’s Ranger,” says Bill Rogers, Skytec CEO and cofounder. By pairing LiDAR and photogrammetry data, collected with UAS, with satellite imagery, Skytec’s Ranger delivers insights for site selection as well as information about sensitive areas and permitting. Using machine learning and satellite imagery, Ranger can also monitor change detection for short- or long-term use.

By partnering with Skytec, clients can get insights about site suitability during the design phase. When evaluating anywhere from hundreds to hundreds of thousands of acres, Skytec’s combination of data collected through UAS, such as LiDAR, provides geospatial insights to determine site-suitability for a client’s project.

“Using LiDAR and photogrammetry, we can identify and evaluate areas that may have high density of wetlands, for example, within a FEMA floodplain zone,” says Andy Carroll, CTO and Cofounder of Skytec. “Early evaluation of property can identify what may require offsets, areas to fill, or need permits before work begins. This data gathered upfront has the potential for clients to realize cost savings or determine if a property is worth the investment.”

If a jobsite requires particular construction permitting for environmental impact, Skytec’s Ranger platform enables site managers to easily and remotely monitor change detection of sensitive or permit-protected areas. Without change detection tools, damage on site or encroaching in a sensitive area can result in costly fines, at best, and at worst lead to a public relations nightmare. With Ranger, clients can easily and closely monitor and manage work performed around sensitive areas to maintain permit compliance.

“After ground is broken on a project, using one of our satellite imagery partners, Skytec can monitor change detection as a site or project develops for easy monitoring and evaluation of assets,” Rogers says. Compared with in-person evaluation, remote satellite monitoring delivers transparent information right at a site manager’s fingertips without a site visit.

An Established Partner for Geospatial Imagery and Analysis

With the commercialization of satellite imagery, almost anyone can access high-resolution imagery for a price. But to get the most accurate and valuable analytical insights from satellite imagery, companies like Skytec have dedicated and tenured partnerships, hosting solutions, and tools to provide clear, usable data for decision makers.

“This level of data presents huge opportunities and possibilities in AEC,” Rogers says. “Skytec is adept and experienced in managing the many moving parts required for this level of data analysis. From imagery sources and GIS software to hosting solutions and machine learning capabilities, we manage ongoing and multiple partnerships so our clients can meet their business objectives with valuable, cutting-edge solutions.”
